Maria Chevska
Maria Chevska is an artist who lives and works in London. From 1990 until 2017, she was also a Professor of Fine Art at the Ruskin School of Art, University of Oxford.
Foremost a painter for over four decades, she is sometimes exhibiting her sculpture alongside her paintings. Many of her works engage with poetry, or writers. These are both historical, and contemporary voices that resonate with the themes explored within her material language.
Significant projects since the early 1990s include collaborations with artists, and writers, that have subsequently featured in numerous international publications. The monograph Vera’s Room: The Art of Maria Chevska was published by Black Dog London in 2005.
There have been solo exhibitions including in the UK, Finland, Germany, The Netherlands, France, Italy, Poland, and the United States.
